A typical household’s daily pattern, the OEB prices from November 1, 2026, and this utility’s approximate delivery charges. Solar is sized for best payback on each plan; batteries charge from solar and, on Ultra-Low Overnight, from cheap overnight power. Your habits (an EV charging overnight, working from home) can change the winner.

The three plans in brief

Time-of-Use: 9.1¢ off-peak, 14.6¢ mid-peak and 18.9¢ on-peak. Ultra-Low Overnight: 3.7¢ overnight, 37.7¢ weekdays 4–9 pm. Tiered: 11.2¢, then 13.2¢ above a monthly threshold. Read the full guide to Ontario rate plans.

Which Ontario rate plan is cheapest?
It depends on when you use power. Time-of-Use suits most homes. Ultra-Low Overnight wins when you can shift a lot of use to 11 pm–7 am, like charging an EV, and avoid 4–9 pm on weekdays. Tiered suits homes that use little power or a lot during weekday peaks.
Can I switch plans if I have solar?
Ontario customers on the Regulated Price Plan can choose Time-of-Use, Ultra-Low Overnight or Tiered. If you have solar on net metering, ask your utility how your arrangement affects switching before you change.
Does a battery make ULO worthwhile?
Often. A battery can charge overnight at 3.7¢ and run your home through the 37.7¢ weekday evening peak. Whether it pays back depends on its cost, any rebate and your evening use.
